Chemical Free Homemade Breath Freshener
Introduction
Thyme is one of the easiest herbs to grow in your own garden at your home. I am
using Thymus Vulgaris or common thyme. It thrives in well drained soil and in a
sunny position. My thyme breath spray contains thymol which is powerful
antiseptic agent. Thyme kills germs and bacteria in the mouth helping to keep
breathe fresh.
Thyme with its powerful anti-bacterial properties is the key ingredient and
also used in commercial dentistry. I am also adding mint and eucalyptus leaves
to give my spray an antiseptic boost.
People buy herbs from supermarkets and find they do not seem to last. As
supermarket packs loads of seeds in tiny containers which do look lush but as
herbs start to grow they do not have enough room and hence they do not last
long. Herbs grown properly from seedling with enough space, water and sun thrive
even in tiny space at home.
Recipe as follows:
Ingredients
- 10 tablespoon Thyme
- 5 tablespoons Eucalyptus
- 10 tablespoon Mint
- 200ml Vodka
- 1 Lemon peel
- 3 teaspoons cloves
- 3 teaspoons Aniseed
- 4 tablespoon Glycerin
- 1 pump dispenser bottle
Strip the leaves from thyme, eucalyptus and mint stems. Give a good rinse and
roughly chop them. Add ten
tablespoon thyme leaves, five tablespoon eucalyptus
leaves and ten tablespoon mint leaves into a blender. Now add 200ml vodka to the
leaves mixture followed by one lemon peel, three teaspoons cloves and three
teaspoon aniseed. Both cloves and aniseed are mildly antiseptic. Blend all the
ingredients and whizz till you have a bright green paste.
You will love the smell of this. It is strong, intensely fresh almost like
chewing gum.
This paste needs to sit for a month to become a concentrated tincture. Put
this mixture in a jar and seal it with a layer of vodka on the top. Keep the
tincture in a cool dark place. The longer you leave it the stronger your breathe
spray will be.
Open the jar after a month and you will have a dark green color mixture. Now
strain the mixture through a
piece of muslin. Liquid might not look like the
most exciting color in the world but it definitely works. After a month
has passed add four tablespoons of glycerin to the strained liquid to thicken
and sweetened the mixture. You can buy glycerin from any chemist. Put the mixture in pump assisted bottle which will give only a tiny amount at
a time which is less than a milliliter. A tiny amount is advised due to the high
concentration of alcohol. You can buy a pump dispenser bottle from any health food
shop.
Storage
This spray will keep up to six months in a cool dark place.

preservative free.
