The Hadron Collider

Most Advanced Invention

hadron collider

In the past century, we have seen much technological advancement, be it the Television, Telephone, mobile phone or even the toaster, but none of these even come close to the biggest and perhaps the most revolutionary machine ever to have been invented by humans; it’s the Large Hadron Collider!

The Hadron Collider Will Help Us Answer Big Questions

Present at CERN on the border between France and Switzerland is the hadron collider. This marvelous machine has the shape of a circle and a radius of approximately 27 kilometers. It is the largest and highest energy particle accelerator in the world and one that is helping scientists answer very crucial and fundamental questions about the universe like “how did the universe come into being” or “what happened to all the antimatter that was there in the beginning” or “what causes gravity and mass”.

These are just some of a multitude of questions that the large hadron collider is going to help scientists answer.

The work on the hadron collider and the research carried out with it has shown many fascinating results, for example many particles that were lost soon after the big bang have now artificially been created within the particle accelerator, many exotic particles have also been made and not only that but artificial antimatter particularly anti-hydrogen atoms have also been made and stored within the machine.

The machine is aimed at solving many problems in the field of quantum mechanics, and the scientists working there say that if we don’t get the results that we are expecting (based on theory) then it might be plausible that everything we have understood about physics be it how things work, how gravity effects objects, would just be plain wrong. We may have to start from scratch all over again and redefine the very definition of physics and reshape our understanding.

While research about the fundamentals of the universe is still going on at CERN, scientists expect to obtain fascinating results and perhaps solve problems that have remained unsolved for many years all thanks to the hadron collider.
