Smartphone Explodes While Charging and Kills Man

Please read this so this never happens to you!  Smartphones (or cellphones) have the capability to explode while charging.  This can especially happen when the cell phone is in use, especially while making a call while it's plugged into a charger.

Example #1:
In this example, this man was charging his cell phone at his house.  He received a call and answered it while it was still plugged into a charger.  Within a few seconds the phone had an unusual burst of electricity through it causing the cell phone to explode.  The explosion was so intense that it caused this to his hand and his phone:

His parents found him in his room only to find him unconscious and his hands/phone all burnt up.  His parents then rushed him to the hospital, but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Example #2:
While having a phone conversation with a Motorola Droid 2, this man's phone exploded in his ear, causing permanent damage:

There have been about 2 dozen other cases of cell phones exploding over the last decade.  It is important that you are aware of this because there are things you can do to prevent this from happening to yourself.

Don't Let This Happen To You!
Here are tips you can use to prevent this from happening to you:

  • NEVER USE THE PHONE WHILE ITS CHARGING!
  • Only use batteries that the manufacture recommends for the phone.
  • Only use chargers bought and recommended by your phone provider.
  • Do research and see if there is a history of your phone model exploding with other people.
  • If your phone has any slight amount of fluid on it (like sprinkles from a rain shower), then wait till it dries before charging.
  • Minimize overheating on the phone by taking breaks from it's use occasionally.
  • Keep the phone out of very hot areas, such as near a heater, laying out in the sun, near a stove, etc..
  • Read the manufacture's cell phone manual on how to properly manage your phone's battery.
  • keep the phone away from magnets or other metal objects.
  • Periodically inspect the battery and see if it has any unusual marks, or bubbling going on.  If so, replace it immediately.
  • For a safe measure, replace your battery about once a year.
  • When the phone is done charging, unplug it as soon as you can.  This prevents overheating.
  • If you can, put your phone in a bag instead of your pocket.

Please Tell Your Friends!
Lastly, please share this with your friends and family so it doesn't happen to them either!
