Top 10 Things to do on Oʻahu
O'ahu is the third largest island of Hawaii’s main eight islands and it's
rich in natural sites that feature volcanic rock as well as lush tropical
vegetation. This island is home to the world famous Waikiki Beach, Pearl Harbor
and the
Hawaiian capital of Honolulu. Needless to say, you’ll find plenty of exciting
sights to see and things to do when you visit this Hawaiian retreat.
10) Chinaman’s Hat,
Oʻahu
Chinaman’s Hat, also known as Mokoliʻi, is a popular spot for taking pictures of
Oʻahu’s windward coast. It's a great place to visit if you are adventurous
and actually want to enjoy some time to yourself. The outcropping resembles a Chinese peasant’s
hat and it once was attached to Oʻahu. This mini island features two sea
caves and two small beaches to relax on. Most people know Chinaman's hat from
postcards but the real charm and beauty of the place can only be experienced if you visit it.
The beautiful basalt island is located at the north end of Kaneohe Bay and is
only 450 meters offshore from Kualoa Regional Beach Park.
9) The Hawaii State
Art Museum
The Hawaii State Art Museum (HiSAM) is an excellent place to go to better
understand the art and culture of Hawaii. The museum is comprised of three
spacious galleries, a 70 seat multipurpose room, a volunteer resources center
and an outdoor tiled lanai.
8) The Bishop Museum
The Bishop Museum is a must see for visitors who want to learn more about
Hawaii’s cultural past. This beautiful museum, which houses the world’s largest
exhibit of Hawaiian and Pacific artifacts, was originally built to showcase the
Royal Princess Bernice Pauahi and the Bishop’s vast heirloom collection. Daily programs
at the museum allow visitors to learn more about the Hawaiian and Polynesian
cultures.
7) Diamond Head -
Honolulu
One of the top tourist destinations in Honolulu, Diamond Head is an idyllic spot
for people who like to hike or yearn for adventure. The volcanic promontory
offers stunning views of Honolulu and the Pacific Ocean.

4) The Polynesian
Cultural Center
Located on Oʻahu’s north shore, the Polynesian Cultural Center is a must see
attraction for visitors who want to learn about the culture and history of the
people of Polynesia. Founded in 1963, the Center features 8 villages depicting
the Polynesian way of life.
3) The Lolani Palace
The Iolani Palace was the last residence of the Hawaiian monarchy or King Kalakaua and Queen Lili`uokalani of Hawaii. Built in 1882, the structure is the
only royal palace on American soil. The recently renovated palace is in close
proximity to other notable Hawaiian tourist attractions, including the State of
Hawaii Capitol Building and the Mission Houses Museum.
2) The Aloha Tower
Serving as welcoming landmark for a wide variety of vessels, the 10 story Aloha
Tower is listed on both the Hawaii and National Register of Historic Places.
Built in 1926, the tower offers stunning views of Honolulu Harbor from its tenth
floor observation deck. A small vintage elevator transports visitors up to the
top and no admission is charged to access the deck.
1) Pearl Harbor
The location of a Japanese attack during World War II, Pearl Harbor is located
in the Ewa District of central Oʻahu. The largest natural harbor in Hawaii,
Pearl Harbor is also the only naval base in the U.S. that has been designated as
National Historic Landmark. The harbor was so named because of the pearl oysters
that once were harvested there. The Pacific Historic Parks in the area feature a
number of related attractions, including: the Battleship Missouri Memorial, the
USS Oklahoma Memorial, the USS Bowfin Submarine Museum and Park, and the Pacific
Aviation Museum.
Conclusion
While Hawaii features eight major islands, Oʻahu is considered the main island
when it comes to seeing some of the state’s most famous sites and museums.
Anyone interested in learning more about the Hawaiian or Polynesian culture will
find Oʻahu to be a fascinating place.
